In what could be the biggest transfer news of this season, Borussia Dortmund have confirmed today that they have received a formal request from Mats Hummels that the defender wants to join arch rivals Bayern Munich at the end of this campaign.
The 27 year old was linked with a number of clubs ever since the start of 2016 and when his current contract with Dortmund will run down in 2017, top European Clubs wanted to grab this prized asset.
However, Hummels has made it crystal clear today that it’s none other than Bayern Munich which he would prefer to join in the coming summer transfer window.
The 27 year old has been a stalwart defender for Dortmund ever since joining the club in 2009-10 but now at the peak of his career, Hummels wants to have a new challenge in his already illustrious career.
According to Dortmund’s official website, they have received a transfer request from Mats Hummels but will only allow the defender to leave the club if a suitable offer comes from Bayern Munich.
As written on their official webpage, Borrusia Dortmund reiterates the fact that they are yet to receive an offer for the 27 year old from any club till date.
Remember Hummels actually started his career with Bayern Munich back in 2006 as a youth prospect before signing for Borussia Dortmund in 2008. He has won 2 Bundesliga titles with Dortmund and currently captains his side in all competitions.
So having made 44 appearances for Dortmund this season, Hummels is now likely to follow the footsteps of his former teammates Robert Lewandowski and Mario Gotze which left the Yellow wall for Bayern Munich in the past few years.
However, Dortmund would want to make as much money as possible with Hummels move to their direct rivals next season.
